Challenge: How can I provide access to education and employment opportunities for low-income communities by solving transportation gaps, reducing Toyota’s carbon footprint, and educating consumers of LEV/ZEV technology?
Many American urban and rural areas do not have a strong transportation system. Low-income communities are impacted the most and do not have access to economic opportunities leading to a cycle of poverty. Toyota in partnership with (confidential) stakeholders is launching a mobility service utilizing alternative fuel vehicles to address access to education, skill training centers, and employment hubs. I am researching community mobility challenges by interacting with government, nonprofits, and community members.
Design Role: Researcher and Community Service Design Lead
I am conducting expert interviews and focus groups in low income communities to understand mobility challenges of individuals to design a service that addresses the various use-cases. I am collaborating with an internal Toyota design team to develop and launch a pilot to address mobility challenges.
